The Samsung Galaxy S21 is expected to get launched on January 14 with an expected release date of January 22, based on a leak provided by Android Authority. It has not been long since the launch of Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, massive leak suggests hints on new drop. While the S21 + probably comes with a back cover made of glass, the basic version S21 could only have a plastic cover.
The Samsung S21 may look pretty similar to the Galaxy S20, the S21 has a vertical camera stack and the front display is flat instead of curved. With comparison to the Galaxy S20, the camera bump is pretty big which is 157.7 x 72.2 x 7.9mm. The S21 and S21 Plus are expected to come with the same 2.5D screens included with their S20 counterparts. For the screens to be read easily outdoors, Samsung promises brightness up to 1300 candela. And for better resistance to knocks and scratches, the cover of the panels are made of Gorilla Glass 7.
Samsung Galaxy S21 will sport triple cameras in the back, sporting ultrawide 12MP sensor, a 12MP main sensor and a 64MP telephoto lens. Samsung will be bringing back 100x Space Zoom, while introducing laser autofocus on the S21 Ultra to avoid some of the focus problems from last year’s model. With the resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, Samsung has reduced the resolution significantly because the previous models each used a native resolution of an impressive 3200 x 1440 pixels.
Samsung is following the trend set by Apple and for the benefit of the environment, it does not include an adapter, saying that Samsung would ditch the in-box charger and is expected to have 4,000 mAh battery. The other features include two stereo speakers, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi 6 and an IP68-certified and thus waterproof and dustproof housing.
Just pricing the product high and selling it in luxury market doesn’t make the product or the brand selling the product luxury. The demand of the product needs to be double or more proportional to the manufacture rate in order to be a luxury product. As we all know Apple is considered to be one of the luxury brands in a tech community if not most luxurious compared to other tech brands.
Apple is a trillion-dolor company that have a high number of people in their “Apple eco-system”. They produce wide range of tech gadgets from smart phones to watches, PC and many others. They also have their own OS and many other software that make their eco-system so compatible throughout their all devices. But this does not make a brand a luxury. In fact, Apple is focusing more towards economy in this year 2020.
But why is Apple consider as a luxury brand?
Apple is very notorious in its marketing strategy as they have many times immensely priced the product high. One of the great examples is they priced the wheel kit for their Mac Pro to $700. You can get a new Macbook air laptop in $900. $700 wheels are definitely not wort it just to roll your computer around. Apple also sold the stand for their pro XDR display monitor separately for a thousand dolor.
These kind of highly priced products from apple make them out stand other tech brands and because of the vast number of people in “Apple eco-system”, they buy these products and make them a luxury brand.
Spot, the new robot dog by Boston Dynamics is believed to be more useful in the upcoming years. The video of Spot dancing, opening doors and pulling a truck have gone viral on YouTube.
The four-legged robot can walk up to three miles per hour, climb terrain, avoid obstacles, see 360-degrees and perform a number of programmed tasks. Boston Dynamic is selling its robot to the public for the first time in its 28-year history for $74,500. We love new innovations but, Spot is not certified safe for in-home use or intended for use near children or others who may not appreciate the hazards associated with its operations.
The Spot is not intended to be used in a way that would hurt people. Robots are however, terrible at conveying intention. Spot is a robot, not a real dog to be making it perform tasks that a real dog can do. Besides the fact that they are too expensive to pet and their sensors get confused by transparent, mirrored or very bright obstacles, they may crash into glass doors and windows, and cannot predict trajectories of moving objects, so they cannot operate around moving objects like vehicles, children and pets. Impressive capabilities come with some risks so it should be acknowledged.
Now that Spot is available in the market for real, will Spot replace the real dogs? No, they won’t. Spot is not a house pet or a toy for entertainment. Spot is certainly an investment and buyers must agree to the beneficial use of its robots before buying Spot.
Rosetta is a translation process which allows users to run applications that contain x86_64 instructions on Apple Silicon which is meant to ease the transition to Apple silicon. Apple’s M1 Macs deliver innovative performance. The company Apple now controls the future of all its platforms and its processors are already impressing users with their performance and stability.
Rosetta 2 is an emulator built into macOS Big Sur which is designed to bridge the transition between Intel and Apple processors. M1-powered Macs can now run native, universal and Intel apps with no effect on performance, using emulation technology Rosetta 2 which is brilliant. Developers are creating Universal applications which will run natively on both M1-powered Macs and Intel. Apps will be available in native or universal form with small update to enable support for Rosetta 2.
Rosetta 2 works in the background whenever an app built for Mac computers with an Intel processor is used. It can convert an application right at installation time. The apps on Rosetta extension might actually run faster than they do on Intel. It provides excellence in memory handling and excellent performance. However, Rosetta cannot translate kernel extensions or Virtual Machine apps which virtualize x86-64 computer platforms, AVX, AVX2 and AVX512 vector instructions.
Apple silicon is considered as the best technological achievement of 2020. The new M1 MacBook are effortlessly fast and efficient which does not mean that the old Intel Macs were slow. People might be still purchasing Intel based Macs so Apple might retain support for Rosetta 2 within for longer period of time.
After more than decade, Adobe Flash player, the famous adobe software has officially reached its end on the last day of 2020. Adobe will no longer offer security updates for Flash and has urged people to uninstall it. Adobe will prevent Flash Player form displaying content from 12 January.
Flash has been a huge part of web history since 1996 and was one of the most popular ways for people to stream videos and play games online. It was installed on 99% of the internet connected computers. Flash was more than just animations, it let websites such as YouTube to stream quality videos. Adobe was slow to react as the world was moving towards mobile devices and was not fully compatible. Flash was redundant on smartphones and tablets and was also a security threat. Adobe did get a version of Flash Player working on smartphones but big brands like Facebook, Netflix, and YouTube were already streaming videos on mobile devices and tablets without Flash. So, in November 2011 Adobe ended its development of Flash Player for mobile devices and yet continued to produce Flash for desktop computers, which suffered from multiple security flaws.
With so many flaws, Adobe announced that Flash Player would retire in 2020 as other technologies such as HTML5 had matured enough to provide a viable alternative without requiring users to install and updated dedicated plug-in. Instructions has been provided by Adobe on how to uninstall Flash Player on its official website.
Progressive web app (PWA) is a web app which is developed by using a number of technologies and standard patterns to allow them to take advantage of both web and native apps. It allows user to install the app on the mobile, push notification and access the application offline.
An app should meet certain requirements, in order to make it a PWA. The progressive web apps are not built with a single technology. PWA are build and enhanced with modern APIs to deliver enhanced capabilities, reliability and installability using a single codebase. Regardless of the network, a reliable progressive web app should be fast and dependable. Scrolling and animation should feel smooth in a web application and performance should not stop on load event. Web applications have become more capable than before. Installed Web Apps run in a standalone window instead of a browser tab, they are launchable from on the user’s home screen, dock, taskbar or shelf. The application should work offline and should be easy to synchronize. The progressive web apps can be searched through search engine and can be shared through URL. The applications are usable on any device with a screen and a browser.
With a relatively small amount of effort, PWA features can be implemented and can gain many advantages. As users prefer experiences that are fast, reliable, PWA provides a set of best practices meeting users need. Some of the successful examples of PWA are: Pinterest, Starbucks, Twitter, Forbes, Trivago and Flipkart.
Foldable phones are exciting but are too mainstream products, yet. Tech companies like Samsung, Motorola and Huawei with an effort to come up with something new and exciting, foldables phone are being bombarded. Even Apple has been rumored to be working on a foldable device for the longest time.
Folding screen technology is certainly fascinating and worth keeping an eye on but technology experts suggest that waiting for the device to mature before considering to buy one is better. There are many foldables in different shapes and forms. With two screens which can be unfolded, you can get a tablet with a bigger screen, or in some phones, like Samsung’s Z Flip and Lenevo’s Motorola Razr with standard-size touch screen, a miniature screen in the outer shell shows notifications or app previews.
The benefit of a foldable phone is that one can enjoy big screen that takes up less space and it comes with many downsides. The Samsung’s first foldable phone, the Galaxy Fold broke withing days of use by tech reviewers. There is no protecting the foldable display in a real-world environment the way the phones are treated by the users. The screen has visible crease while unfolding the phones. The foldable phones are not that durable.
However, the foldable phones are getting better so it’s quite early to be predicting whether foldable phones will succeed. In few years, the foldables can come up with greater usability, effortless portability, more options, low cost and less compromises might actually increase the number of interested buyers.
